Our first supported project from our SZ-Contact series is Ukrainian artist Daria Pugachova’s residency at Context in Plovdiv.
Daria Pugachova is an artist, performer and art-activist based in Kyiv, Ukraine. During 2013–2019 she played drums in the female trio Panivalkova. After musicians split up Daria dived into a field of contemporary art with her visual arts and performances. In her projects, Daria uses participatory practices to unite a community and integrate art into daily life. She works with performance, film and artivism. Her artistic approach lies in the presence of the artist and direct interaction with the audience in public space.
The yard as a model of the universe. The project explores the life of the post-soviet district in Poltava, Ukraine. The artist comes to Polovky district as an astronaut. She learns from the residents of Polovky about their childhood memories, life and dreams in this yard. After meeting the community of Space Lane, the artist performs in the stadium, symbolically launching their dreams into space.
The artist returns to her hometown and children’s memories of the now-destroyed fountain. She offers residents of Rivne to fill the fountain with life again. The artist sleeps in the ‘Thumbelina’ fountain for two days in the image of a fairy-tale heroine. During the performance, the fountain transforms into a stage and a place to discuss its future.
15 Seconds of You – art project dedicated to Earth Day and humanity.
