BALKAN STORIES. Exhibition by Kyril Buhowski

Curation and sound environment by Georgi P. Pavlov
5 – 15 November, 2025
Opening: 5 November, Wednesday, 6 – 9 pm

The Balkans, much like love, are an endless paradox. They are oversaturated with history and culture, yet still lack a stable identity. It is a place that simultaneously pushes us away and keeps pulling us back.

In his debut exhibition ‚Balkan Stories,‘ the artist Kyril Buhowski shares fragments of this constant movement between here and there, between the West and the Balkans, between the self and the others. His paintings are deeply personal yet remain open to the collective. They question without moralizing and search for the human being as a composite of places, objects, memories, and desires.

At the heart of the exhibition stands an installation, a metaphor for the tension between identities, cultures, and contexts. It reminds us that the contemporary human is always “in-between,” simultaneously here and elsewhere, always in motion.

‘Balkan Stories’ is an invitation to see ourselves as a collage of quests, journeys, and returns, as a story still being written.

‘Balkan Stories’ is a project of the Ilvida Foundation and is created with the support of the National Culture Fund and the Singer Zahariev Foundation.
